Margins of safety in FPSO hull strength

چکیده
Recent studies were carried out to determine the variation in safety factors (between the applied loading and the capacity) of FPSOs currently operating in the UK Sector of the Central North Sea, and designed using either a class rule type approach or a more advanced hydrodynamic – FE type approach. Results from these studies seem to indicate that the safety factor in both cases is similar, since the advanced hydrodynamic / FE type approach tends to result in higher loadings but also higher capacities. However, it is not clear to what extent these results can be applied to other FPSOs, or to other areas. There is also an apparent variation in reserve strength against hogging and sagging bending moments. This is particularly true for double hull FPSOs that tend to have a higher capacity at the bottom of the hull in comparison to the deck. The purpose of this report is to collate available data on the range of variation of safety factors of currently used FPSOs, and to consider how more consistent margins of reserve strength for various FPSO configurations under various loading conditions might be achieved. This report and the work it describes were funded by the Health and Safety Executive. Study on the Structural Behaviour of the Topside Modules of FPSO under the Forces Exerted on the Ship Hull
The extraction of oil and gas from deep water is one of the most important challenges of the oil and gas industry today. FPSO is one of the leading platforms for deep waters. This study discussed the performance of FPSO deck modules under loads exerted on the hull of the ship. Modeling of the studied module was executed by SACS software and the effect of support using neoprene in the function o...

Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading “FPSO” have become a popular choice since 1980s for marginal and fast-track developments where subsea pipeline is not an economic or feasible solution for export. Field development usually starts with a concept selection procedure which is constituted from a sequence of multi-disciplinary decision making tasks. As limited data is availabl...
متن کاملPsychosocial aspects of work and health in the North Sea oil and gas industry A survey of FPSO installations and comparison with platforms and drilling rigs
This report addresses three aspects of work and health among offshore personnel, drawing on data collected between 1995 and 2002. • A detailed survey of North Sea personnel (N=470) working on 'Floating Production, Storage and Offloading' (FPSO) installations in 2002 is reported. Significant differences were found across installations and across job types in a wide range of psychosocial measures...
متن کاملHybridisation of Particle Swarm Optimization and Fast Evolutionary Programming
Particle swarm optimization (PSO) and fast evolutionary programming (FEP) are two widely used population-based optimisation algorithms. The ideas behind these two algorithms are quite different. While PSO is very efficient in local converging to an optimum due to its use of directional information, FEP is better at global exploration and finding a near optimum globally. This paper proposes a no...

FPSOs are useful in newly established offshore oil regions where there is no pipeline infrastructure in place, or in remote locations where building a pipeline is cost-prohibitive. In this study, hydrodynamic analysis of FPSO is inquired based Boundary Element Method (BEM) and wave forces/moments, added mass and damping coefficients of degrees of freedom are obtained by AQWA software. FPSO moor...
